Farewell

farewell to my friend I once knew,
she was an unhappy son of a gun
the type of friend that always had something going on
you’d never know if she’d come or go.
often I thought she was finally gone
but then she peaked her head back into my fortress.
She snuck in with silver and gold.
She cackled like when a fire would meet a new log it couldn’t wait to burn.
the type of woman that makes you shrug
how does a woman like her exist?
I couldn’t believe it anytime we would meet and she would show up at my feet
begging me to stay for another day.
Often I would shue her away but I never thought she’d take the bait.
I was under the assumption that she would always try.
Standing at my heavens door asking to come inside
So I could place the final judgement and slam the door.
But for the first time she actually meant her farewell.
She was leaving this town without a desire to look back.
She was leaving me with a new thing to take her place.
“You did your job well, I cannot lie…
so for the first time i will reward you with a prize.
it is me leaving, it is me saying goodbye.
happiness you’ll reside now inside.”
and so lady of depression walked out of my life…
i’m surprised she even said goodbye.
